Building Your Home? Where To Increase The Insulation Levels

Posted on: 26 September 2022

If you're designing a new home, don't forget about the insulation. With all the other decisions you need to make, insulation might not be at the top of your priority list. But, it should be. You might not realise this, but the right insulation will improve energy efficiency. That means your home will maintain comfortable temperatures throughout the year. If you're like most people, you might focus on the unfinished attic space. After all, that's where most energy loss happens. But, there are other areas of the home that need to get insulated as well. Read the list provided below. Here are five spaces that need residential insulation in your new home.

Crawl Spaces

Crawl spaces are some of the most overlooked areas of the home. This is especially true with regard to insulation. If you want to save money on construction costs, you might decide to leave insulation out of the crawl space. But, that could leave your home without protection. That's because cold and heat can come up through the crawl space. Talk to your builder about adding insulation to create a barrier inside the crawl space of your new home.

Floors

If you haven't thought about floor insulation, now's the time to do that. You might not think that floors need insulation, but they do. This is especially true if those floors are on the second floor of the house or over the crawl space. Rigid board insulation works well under floors. This type of insulation prevents energy loss through the floors. Plus, the insulation helps keep your floors warm during the winter.

Walls

When it comes to insulating your new home, don't forget about the walls. You probably know that you need to insulate the exterior walls. But, you should also insulate the interior walls. Wall insulation improves energy efficiency. But, it also controls the noise levels between rooms. This is especially beneficial when you have children.

Roof

If you're planning the insulation for your new home, be sure to talk to your builder about the roof. Roof insulation provides a couple of benefits. The right roof insulation makes your home more energy-efficient. But, it also helps protect your roof from weather-related damage. Wood fibre and gypsum board insulation work well on your roof.

Don't lose out on energy efficiency. Now that you're in the design phase, talk to your home builder about upgrading the insulation in your new home.
